Contrast clauses

Use obwohl, während, and wohingegen.

The rule

Obwohl concedes a fact despite the main result. Während and wohingegen can contrast facts; während can also mean “while” in time.

obwohl/während/wohingegen + … + finite verb

Use obwohl for concession: the main result occurs despite the subordinate fact.

Use während for simultaneous time or direct contrast; context disambiguates.

Use wohingegen for explicit formal contrast.
