Formal cause, grounds and consequences

Use causal and consequential connectors with their correct syntactic class.

The rule

Match the reason to the construction: subordinate clauses, genitive phrases and main-clause connective adverbs behave differently. Zumal adds an especially relevant reason.

zumal … · da … · folglich / demnach + Verbzweit · aufgrund + Genitiv

weil and da introduce subordinate reasons; zumal often supplies an additional especially relevant reason.

Adverbial connectors such as folglich, demnach and infolgedessen occupy a main-clause position and do not cause subordinate verb-final order.

Prepositions such as aufgrund and infolge introduce noun phrases, normally genitive in careful formal production.

A logical conclusion is stronger than a temporal sequence. Do not use folglich merely because one event follows another.
