Indirect questions
Form polite questions with ob and W-words.
The rule
Embed yes/no questions with ob and information questions with their W-word. In both, use subordinate word order with the conjugated verb at the end.
Können Sie sagen, wann … kommt? · Ich weiß nicht, ob … kommt.
Retain the original W-word when information is missing.
Use ob when the embedded answer would be yes or no.
Indirect questions are subordinate clauses with a final finite verb.
