Comparison

Use comparative, superlative, als, and wie.

The rule

Use so … wie for equality and a comparative + als for difference. Learn irregular comparisons and umlauts; am …sten is the usual predicative superlative.

so groß wie · größer als · am größten

Add -er for most comparatives and -(e)st for superlatives; many one-syllable adjectives add an umlaut.

Use wie only with equality and als only after a comparative.

Use am + -sten predicatively; before a noun, decline the superlative adjective after an article.
